Undercurrent by Zheng Lui

Exhibited November 1, 2023 to August 25, 2024

Water Suspended in Air

Undercurrent, 2023, a glimmering, stainless steel sculpture by Inner Mongolian artist Zheng Lui, was created specifically for Hammarskjold Plaza, Facing UN headquarters, its reflective surface represents streams of water suspended in mid-air, evoking fluidity and reflection while drawing attention to climate change and water scarcity.

FDHP President Sherrill Kazan worked through World Council of Peoples for the United Nations (WC-PUN) to engage the artist and bring the 2.5 ton sculpture  to Hammarskjold Plaza under NYC Parks Art in the Parks program.

This formidable 2.5 ton piece speaks to UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Number 6: access to clean water and sanitation, and SDG 13 on climate change in the hopes of raising public awareness. Many thanks for the support of the Sundaram Tagore Gallery, New York, and NYC Parks Art & Antiquities.
