Thinking of You by Alketa Xhafa Mripa

Exhibited March 8th to March 20th, 2026

Opened on International Women’s Day to honor survivors of  sexual violence

A new public art installation, “Thinking of You,” opened to a large crowd in Dag Plaza on International Women’s Day to honor survivors of  sexual violence. Coinciding with the UN Commission on the Status of Women, the exhibit by internationally acclaimed artist Alketa Xhafa Mripa reminds us that justice systems are failing women and girls everywhere. Mripa’s large‑scale installations feature washing lines of donated dresses from survivors,  transforming a domestic scene into a collective act of empowerment and solidarity. Women globally hold just 64 percent of the legal rights of men, exposing them to discrimination, violence, and exclusion. Supported by Albanians for America (AFA) and the F’Oda Collective, the installation remains  in Hammarskjold Plaza until March 20.

From Colombia to Ukraine, Congo to Sudan, hundreds of dresses have been donated by survivors of wartime sexual violence worldwide and their supporters.

Originally staged in 2015 in the artist’s native Kosovo, and subsequently show in The Hague and Strasboun, this installation transforms a domestic scene into a collective system of resilience, overcoming shame and trauma to demand global solidarity, dignity, and justice for all survivors during the UN Commission on the Status of Women, March 2026.
