Special Events Permits are required from NYC Department of Parks & Recreation for activities in which twenty or more people will be present, including cultural events, rallies, parties, classes and corporate field days. Apply a minimum of six weeks before the date.
If you plan to use amplified sound, you must acquire a Sound Permit from the 17th Precinct Police Department after you have obtained the Special Events Permit.
During the annual meeting of the UN General Assembly in September, many groups stage rallies or protests. Space is limited. Contact NYC Parks to secure a date and learn about special regulations.
If you are planning a cultural, environmental, or sports event, be sure to contact Friends of Dag Hammarskjold Plaza. We may be able to facilitate the permit process and help you get the word out through our website and social media. The plaza is an ideal outdoor arena for art, music and dance programs, and we often form alliances with groups who bring public programming to the Plaza.
